The quilting runs in tone across the full width in small rounded shapes, each swelling at the base and rising to a gentle point like a little onion dome, nesting neatly row upon row. Every shape is lightly padded, so the surface has a soft, raised relief that you read through light and shadow rather than contrast.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt's water repellent, so a light shower tends to bead on the surface and roll away rather than sinking in. It isn't waterproof, though: the quilting stitches pass right through the layers, so this is a cloth for showery commutes, touchline duty and breezy seaside strolls rather than a full day out in heavy rain. Royal blue makes a happy middle ground between sensible navy and a bolder red.
