The weight of the fabric will often determine the best project. Lightweight linens are ideal for blouses, shirts, summer dresses and relaxed trousers where comfort and drape are important. Mid-weight linens are among the most versatile options, working well for dresses, skirts, co-ords, overshirts and everyday separates. Heavier linens provide additional structure, making them suitable for trousers, pinafores, jackets and more tailored styles.

Does linen fabric wrinkle easily?

If you prefer a smoother finish, linen blends can offer a similar appearance with a little less creasing. A warm steam iron will quickly freshen linen up when needed.

Is linen fabric good for summer dressmaking?

Linen can shrink slightly on its first wash and will often soften at the same time. Washing it before sewing helps ensure your finished garment behaves as expected once it's made.

What is the difference between 100% linen and linen blends?

Pure linen has the distinctive texture, breathability and character that linen is known for. It tends to have a little more body and will crease more naturally. Linen blends, often mixed with cotton, viscose or other fibres, can feel softer, drape differently and may require less pressing. Both have their place, and the best choice usually comes down to the style of garment you're making.
