Yes. Most fabrics have an Order Sample option on the product page, so you can feel the weight, handle and colour before committing to a full length. Ordering a sample is the best way to be sure a fabric is right for your project.

How much fabric do I need?

It depends on the pattern and your size, so always check your pattern's fabric requirements first. As a rough guide, a simple dress often needs around 2 to 3 metres, but fuller styles, longer lengths or pattern matching will need more. Buy a little extra to be safe.

What fabric is best for beginners?

Stable woven cottons such as poplin and lawn are the easiest to start with, as they hold their shape, press crisply and don't shift around under the machine. They're forgiving to cut and sew, which makes them ideal for a first few projects before moving on to drapier or stretch fabrics.
